Sponsored Video: Samsung and the Institute of Play

I’m a teacher and this video resonates. We’re knee deep in the digital era which means students engagement, focus and expectations around school, learning and careers is completely different to 10 years ago. We must leverage technology and software and even social media and communication to effectively teach.

How do we prepare students for a world we can’t even imagine? That was the question that researchers considered when they put together their team. The team consisted of a game designer, curriculum designer and a teacher and they developed games to help promote learning with the idea that the world is a single uninterrupted opportunity to learn.

In the old model, knowledge is a set of facts that you try to pour into a student’s head, in the new model, knowledge is created in a community. It’s always alive and fluid. Instead of educating students around knowledge, we educate them around thinking.

Connected learning promotes the idea that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. It’s no longer about the ability to retain information, but about the ability to put it together in unique and creative ways

Samsung and the Institue of Play (InstituteofPlay.org) have together created something very special. A curriculum developed around their tablets which puts students in the center of learning.

In my classroom we use technology widely and I could see these as being a great addition to my classroom (nudge, nudge Samsung!).
