There’s something timeless about the allure of casinos, be they big complexes that are becoming increasingly popular across the country, or even the far-off lights of Las Vegas. I’ve had many a good time at Gala Casino on Tottenham Court Road after one or two drinks where the James Bond in me has started to come out. But you don’t necessarily need to travel for thousands of miles to get a touch of the glamour and excitement of Sin City – hosting your own casino night is both easy and very entertaining. Here’s a list of things you’ll need to get things up and running.

The Basics

Being a student, I know the word basics very dearly. To make the night a success you have to have the basics which actually includes more than you might think – after all you want to have a fun time and set the stage for a great evening. The first thing needed are slot machines, but how? It’s simple enough to load up some slot machines on your mobile phone, tablet or PC/ laptop, simply load up some Intertops slots online and guests could take a few on the side. A deck of cards (or two) is mandatory, and you may need more depending on how many people are going to be involved, so make sure you’re prepared. Also obligatory is a large stack of Vegas-style chips – whether you’re playing for keeps or just for bragging rights, they’ll bring a touch of authenticity to proceedings as well as making it easy to keep track of the winners and losers. If you want roulette to be part of your evening, then obviously you’ll need to get your hands on a roulette wheel too – there are many places that you can hire genuine wheels from if you want that real Las Vegas feel.

Looking The Part

You’d be sure to be dressing to impress if you were going on a night out to a casino, so if you’re hosting a casino-themed party then be sure to adopt a sophisticated dress code. Gentlemen, put on your finest suits and bow ties, and ladies, this is the perfect excuse to break out that glamorous cocktail dress or sexy little black number. And if you’re going to have one or two people acting as designated croupiers, it’ll be a nice touch if they’re smartly turned out in dapper waistcoats – sleek dresses will also work well for the ladies.

Shake Up Some Cocktails

If you want to add an extra touch of class to your evening, then you’ll want to make sure the drinks are up to snuff. So indulge in a few bottles of your favourite spirits and mixers and get your cocktail shakers ready– and hey, there’s no harm in practicing your cocktail-making skills beforehand, especially as you can drink the results at your leisure afterwards. Here’s a list of cocktails that’ll have guests drooling and ultra impressed by your hosts skills.

Get Some Practice In

Even if you’re just playing for fun, you don’t want your bluffing skills to be shown up by your friends, so make sure you get a few hands in before you invite everyone over. Online casinos can be a great place to do this – and with the wide variety of different games available online, you might even get some inspiration for your big party while you’re at it. Of course, nothing beats learning to read your opponent in a face-to-face situation, so getting some real-life practice in is also a smart move.

Give it a shot. It’ll make a nice change from going down the local student bar and who knows, it may become your favourite monthly student night for you and your friends. Let us know how you get on.
