Make your student loan go further with discounts online
We’ve all experienced the joy when you open your bank account and you see your student loan has arrived. Unfortunately, most of us will also know the feeling of your loan leaving your bank account far too quickly. So if your next student loan already feels like a lifetime away, here are some top discounts to make your money go further.
Food
Whatever your stomach fancies, there are tons of discounts to be had on food and drink. The Co-op supermarket offers 10% on most of the contents on your basket (not alcohol, sorry!) If you’re feeling too lazy to cook, Domino’s offer new discounts all the time so check their website to find the one that can save you the most money.
If you fancy going out for a meal, make sure you check the restaurant’s website for discount codes. Some of the biggest chains like Prezzo, Frankie & Bennies, Cafe Rouge, Chiquito and Bella Italia all offer discount codes that you can show to the waiter to get money off your food. You can even save up to 40% at Pizza Express on Mondays and Tuesdays by showing your NUS card.
Entertainment
All work and no play makes student life very dull, so it’s important you keep some money aside for entertainment. Most cinemas will offer a special student rate on tickets, including Odeon who offer 25% off all standard 2D and 3D tickets from Monday to Thursday each week.
If you fancy something different, some of the country’s best theme parks offer big discounts for students. You can save up to 40% at Alton Towers, up to 45% at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and up to 50% at Chessington World of Adventure by logging onto the NUS Card website before buying your ticket.
If you like to spend your spare time playing on online casinos, some sites will give you extra chips when you deposit certain amounts. Fortune Palace check the biggest casino sites to help you find the websites that’ll offer you the most chips for the amount you want to play with.
Clothes
Most of the big high street brands offer a discount all year round. Topman, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Office, Oasis and ASOS all offer 10% off all clothing on their websites. Occasionally, especially around the time your student loan comes in, they’ll up the discount to 20% so keep checking their websites for the latest offers.
Travel
If you’re regularly on trains visiting friends or family then a student rail card could save you hundreds of pounds off rail fares. A 16 to 25 year old railcard is easy to order online, costs just £30 and will save you a third off all advanced rail fares. If you’re more of a coach person, you can save 25% off your journeys on National Express by visiting the NUS website.
Boring Stuff
Unfortunately your student loan can’t just be spent on fun, but at least there’s money to be saved on your bills as well. Virgin Media are one of the few providers which will offer you a nine month contract so you just pay for it when you’re actually at university. Endsleigh will also give you money off travel and car insurance just for being a student.
So as long as you plan ahead and are armed with the right student ID and discount codes, you can make your student loan last a lot longer.
