Which Mobile Phone is Best for Uni Use?

| April 13, 2010 | 1 Comment

Parents claim you’ll only need a notebook for uni? Nonsense. While the old assumption that a non-tech degree is possible still seems to float around, a growing number of students are realizing that a university career without technology – particularly a versatile laptop computer and handy mobile phone – just isn’t possible.

That’s why it’s becoming increasingly rare to see any student without a powerful mobile phone lodged in their pocket or backpack. It’s why it’s almost impossible to find a single class without a sea of 3G enabled mobile phones and mobile computing devices. Education has changed, and while parents don’t quite understand it, going through a degree without a mobile phone is like working in an office without a desk and chair.

But enough talk about the necessity of the mobile phone – what we’re concerned about is the choice. Do you want to blend into the iCrowd or stand out with something a little more unique? We’ve picked out three phones that appeal to university students, and paired them up with the type of users that appreciate them.

  1. iPhone 3GS

It’s hard to question the iPhone’s versatility. When it comes to mobile phone handsets, this is the model that will suit most students and cause a minimal level of fuss. It’s simple, very user-friendly, and packed with features to ensure you can check class emails on the go, submit work online, and browse Facebook during boring lectures.

That said, the iPhone 3GS is far from perfect. The lack of a tactile keyboard makes the iPhone 3GS a nasty writing tool, and the phone’s scratch-friendly surface means you’ll be forking out even more cash for a protective case or two.

  1. Blackberry Bold

Any business majors around? The Blackberry Bold may not be cool, it may not be particularly stylish, and it may not be as fun as the iPhone, but it’s by far the best mobile phone out there for business majors and would-be entrepreneurs. If you like writing emails – or even class papers – then this is the handset to pick up before classes start. Another quality bonus of this device is that you can connect to a laptop and create mobile broadband as long as you are in signal range.

Of course, if it’s entertainment you’re after then the Blackberry Bold isn’t the ideal choice. Sacrifice individuality with an iPhone or enjoy awesome mobile entertainment with one of Nokia’s new big-screen phones, but don’t rely on your Blackberry for quality mobile movie viewing.

  1. Google Nexus One

If God were to answer the prayers of every computer science major, we’d all be fluent in C# and pocketing a Nexus One. Google’s slick new phone may officially be made by HTC, but that doesn’t stop it from being very technology geek’s favourite iPhone alternative.

The Nexus One knows it’s unlikely to ever be the ‘cool’ phone on the block, but it seems like the type of device that doesn’t mind sitting in second place. This quietly confident mobile phone houses an impressive 5MP camera and high-spec processor. If you’re an Android lover or technology fan, it’s the mobile phone to choose.

Even I watch sports on my iPhone 3GS when I bored on the lecture 😉 This iPhone is the smartest and best phone ever in my life.

Blackberry is not bad. But I’ve a wish for google nexus one. I’ll taste its (specially android) flavor in near future.
