Best Summer Festivals 2011
Summer is upon us and along with our other student pastimes (drinking, clubbing, eating pizza and getting into debt) our favourite summer student pastime has to be going to festivals!
Just thinking of last year’s music festivals brightens my day and thinking of this year’s makes me want to start packing (lightly of course).
We decided to help brighten your day by getting you excited about 3 festivals that we wouldn’t miss for the world: Glastonbury Festival, The Eden Sessions and T in the Park.
Glastonbury Festival
Wednesday 22nd – Sunday 26th June 2011
Glastonbury Festival is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. It is also the festival that 92 people out of 100 named on Family Fortunes as a UK music festival (I made that up but it’s the undisputed king of the festival circuit)
The Glastonbury Festival website describes the event as “like going to another country, a hip and thrilling Brigadoon that appears every year or so”. They go on to say “Coming to Glastonbury involves a fair amount of travel, and probably a queue to get in but, when you get past these impediments, you enter a huge tented city, a mini-state under canvas. British law still applies, but the rules of society are a bit different, a little bit freer. Everyone is here to have a wild time in their own way.”
Along with the awesomeness of this festival they raise a great point about being prepared – if you are driving make sure that you have adequate car insurance to make sure you’re covered if anything happens while on the road. We would recommend Tesco Car Insurance.
Glastonbury does sell out quickly and so if you get the opportunity to buy tickets and go, don’t think twice.

The Eden Sessions
Friday 24th June – Sunday 10th July 2011
Q Magazine called The Eden Sessions, ‘The Summer’s Most Imaginative Event’ and we whole-heartedly agree. At this event you’ll be able to listen to some of the best bands in the world in the most inspiring setting – the biomes (the bubbly dome shaped thingies).
This year’s line up includes Primal Scream and the Horrors, Pendulum, The Flaming Lips, The Go! Team and OK Go plus many more.
The Eden Sessions are also well known for amazing food at reasonable prices. See their website for more details.
T in the Park
Friday 8th – Sunday 10th July 2011
This is the 18th year of T in the Park and it’s going to be one to remember. With over 200 artists performing across 11 stages over 3 days, TITP consistently boasts the biggest bands, cutting edge DJ’s and best breakthrough acts.
Headlining will be the Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Foo Fighters. How could I forget that Beyonce, Pulp and The Strokes will also be there and many many more.
The TITP website claims that, “In 2011, TITP will once again bring a world class and unrivalled line up to Balado and a smile to the face of the 85,000 festival fans proud to be there” and we wouldn’t want to argue with that.
