5 Student Fashion Tips
Being a student and trying to be fashionable is difficult. Not only is this prime “finding your style” time, but you’re also strapped for cash, so you might find yourself buying one thing only to find that you wear it once and never again, because it doesn’t quite fit in with your new sense of style – which might only last a week.
Consider it Carefully
When you’re tight on cash, you need consider what you’re spending your money on carefully. This means that instead of buying something just because you like it or you think it looks good on you, consider whether it will go out of fashion next year, and whether you have items already in your wardrobe that you can pair with it.
Don’t Forget Your Student Discount
When you’re shopping it’s easy to remember to use your student discount in the big name stores, but if you remember to ask, then you might get a discount where you didn’t expect one.
It always pays to ask!
Clothes Swap
You hang around with pretty fashionable people, right? Then why not have a clothes swap party? Get rid of clothes that you don’t want to wear and maybe gain some new ones that you love!
Even if you don’t fancy any of your friends’ cast offs, there are places online where you can find out where the nearest organised clothes swaps are.
Head to Swishing.co.uk for an online version of the clothes swap experience. Send your clothes to the site, and you earn credits to spend with them. You don’t even need credits to shop with the site!
Buy Second Hand
Instead of lusting after the latest garments, find something that has been worn and loved before. Whether it’s a trip through the charity shops until you find something you like, or looking online on eBay, you can save a mint by not buying new.
When you’re charity shop shopping, make sure that you look at both men’s and women’s clothes, regardless of what you think you’re looking for. You might find a great pair of men’s Chelsea boots in your size, and sometimes items can end up in the wrong place!
Invest in Key Pieces
When you’re a student, it can be hard to justify spending more than £20 on anything. Apart from a night out, of course. But if you think about how well made certain – more expensive – clothes might be, and how you might wear said clothes year after year, then it may well be worth saving up and really investing in key pieces that will last you for a long time – and never g out of style. A really great wool coat could be worn for a good few winters, and a well-made brogue will look good throughout all your formal occasions.
