There is a lot of advice for students on how to prepare resumes, how to behave during an interview, what to say and not to say and very importantly, how to dress correctly and create the right impression. However, there’s very little advice on buying interview clothes and ensuring that the items you purchase are not just for a one- off occasion. With this in mind, here are a few tips that can help you buy the right clothes for any interview and for the workplace thereafter.

Simple and smart

One thing that many young people tend to gravitate towards is fashion. This is fine for daily dress, however when shopping for an interview it’s advised to stick to a more classic, less dated style. Avoid overly fussy looks and stick to classic shapes and cuts in neutral colours. The mantra ‘simple equals smart’ is a great way to ensure you stay on track for a suitable interview wardrobe. If you buy a well cut pair of pants, shirt, or suit you will be able to add it to your working wardrobe for the future and not spend an exorbitant amount of money on something that is only worn once.

Steer clear of designer labels

The way you dress for an interview creates an instant impression but you do not need to splurge on designer clothes in the hope of looking good. Unless you have won the jackpot at MobileCasino.mobi the chances are that you are still on a student budget, so stick to appropriately priced stores. An interviewer may look at your designer clothes and decide that you do not need the job as much as someone else, so steer clear of obviously branded garments and bags.

Focus on fit

An often overlooked aspect when shopping for a job interview is fit. Many people focus so much on finding the correct garment that the fit is overlooked and they end up with uncomfortable, unflattering clothing. As with all fashion, just because something is popular it doesn’t mean it will look good on everyone.  Observe this as a rule when shopping for an interview and ensure that the fit is flattering and the clothes look good on you.

Finding the right interview outfit should give you added confidence and equip you with the start of a working wardrobe for the future.
