National Firm Offering Help on the Roads
Your university years bring with them newfound freedom and a great sense of independence. If you’re moving away from home, you may well be considering investing in a vehicle of your own in order to get around your new home town and visit mum & dad at the end of the semester.
There’s lots to consider when buying a car – there’s obviously the initial financial outgoing but it’s worth remembering that tax, MOT and insurance are all obligatory additions; with young drivers’ insurance premiums being notoriously high.
It is thought that the hike in premiums is relative to the reckless reputation that precedes young drivers (who are recognised by insurers as being less than 25 years of age). Recent figures suggest that the number of 17 to 19 year olds taking a driving test has plunged by almost a fifth in just five years, with the probable cause being the 80% rise in young drivers’ insurance costs in recent years.
This spike in policies seems comprehensible given that, according to the ABI, drivers aged under 25 make up only an 1/8 of all UK motorists, yet they account for 1/3 of accidents. The inexperienced appear to be a liability on the road, but let’s not forget that we were all new drivers once.
Regardless of our driving experience, every now and then we could all do with some help on the roads. It could be a reassuring phone call from Mum when your car goes in for it’s MOT, or perhaps a visit from Dad to check your oil – either way, your life as a motorist is a great learning curve and there will always be helpful tips and advice to learn from.
That’s why Winn Solicitors have put together a handy new blog. It’s full of help and support for all road users from cars and motorbikes to cyclists and even horse riders. Brimming with industry knowledge and professional advice, it’s a great resource for UK road users of all ages.
It’s called ‘Help on the Roads’, and it has twelve great categories including ‘Q&A’, ‘New Driver’ and ‘Less Able’. Not only does it feature great articles, there’s also real time advice from trained specialists in the form of live chat – which has the look and feel of an instant messaging service with the added benefit of Winn’s trained responders who are on hand to answer your questions.
